Oral Hygiene
Scaling and Polishing
Scaling and Polishing regularly by your hygienist helps keep your teeth and gums healthy and your smile whiter. Scaling removes the hard tartar which cannot be removed by brushing. Polishing removes stains from coffee, tea, cigarettes or red wine. We recommend that you have your teeth scaled and polished at least every six months.
Fluoride Treatment
Oral bacterial use fermentable carbohydrates to produce acids that attack the tooth structure. Fluoride strengthens teeth by tipping the demineralization – remineralization equilibrium in the favor of remineralization. Fluoride treatments are applied at the dental office, at the end of a hygiene visit. The fluoride is applied as a gel in a tray that looks like a night guard for one to four minutes. After application, we ask you not to eat or drink for an hour. Other treatments and products may be recommended by your doctor to restore oral health.
Oral Hygiene instruction
Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Replace your toothbrush every three or four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed. A worn toothbrush won’t do a good job of cleaning your teeth.
Clean between teeth daily with floss since bacteria can still remain between teeth where the toothbrush bristles can’t reach. This action helps remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gum line.
